A Reminder Of Eternity

by Courtney

” Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2

It can be so easy to focus on earthly things; to focus on our temporal circumstances. I must confess that I have been doing a lot of that recently and what I have found is that earthly-minded thinking gravely affects my relationship with my Savior. I become melancholic and it leads me to turning inward rather than upward. I was in this state for about a week and a half and it began with Timothy* (name change) being granted by the courts to begin his reunification process, to go back home with his birth parents. But God is always so patient and kind not to leave me in that state. He lovingly and graciously showed me my sin, granted me repentance, and used it to remind me of the inheritance I have with Him in eternity. Read the rest of this entry »

Eggplants

EGGsperiment Continued

by Courtney

So with the hit of my first eggplant dish, it got me thinking of how else I might use eggplant in a casserole dish. One recipe I was thinking of was this vegetarian lasagna I’ve seen in my Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, but haven’t yet tried. I also thought about using Alfredo sauce, instead of Spaghetti sauce because I love Fettuccine Alfredo, but hardly ever get to have/make it because my husband doesn’t care much for pasta (crazy, I know!). So an idea was born to make a sort of eggplant-lasagna-vergetarian-casserole type dish that Jesse ended up simply naming Alfredo Eggplant Casserole. It’s been a huge hit around here and I wanted to share the recipe on here… Read the rest of this entry »

What I’ve Learned as a Wife

by Courtney

Jesse and I will celebrate 5 years of marriage this coming anniversary. Half a decade. Sometimes I feel like we’ve been married a lot longer than just 5 years because we have such a routine together and are so comfortable around each other. Then there are other times when it feels like there are still so many things to learn about this man that God has gifted me and it feels like we’ve barely been married. About a month ago, I went to a bridal shower for a dear sister in Christ who was soon to be married and all of us women went around sharing things that we’ve learned in our marriages and walks in Christ. There are several brothers and sisters that I know who are about to enter into the world of married life and it has caused me to examine my own marriage and the lessons that I’ve learned along the way that I felt like sharing here. Comfort in Trials

by Courtney

I haven’t been able to post in a while, because in the last few weeks we’ve had 2 other babies in the home in addition to Timothy* (name change). We had a newborn baby girl straight from the hospital for two weeks, at which point she left after her adversary hearing to live with some extended family. Her departure was relatively easy to endure because I was expecting it from the moment I met her. The CPS investigator told me of this couple, who has contact with her half siblings, was interested in her and I knew the judge in my area would grant her to them. I also had peace knowing that this couple has a form of Christianity in their lives and I rest knowing that hopefully that will serve to keep her free from a life of gross sin. There was also a six month old baby boy that we had two days after little girl left for less than 24 hours. His departure was welcomed because I was feeling overwhelmed at having to care for 2 active babies. He was able to go stay with grandparents and it worked out for everyone. Even though losing these other 2 babies were “easy” to endure, what their departures did do was serve as a reminder that Timothy’s departure day will be soon and so for the last week or so, I have been emotional about that. How do I even begin to prepare to give up a baby, who I have loved and cared for as my own for the past 4 months? Read the rest of this entry »
